New Hampshire Aerospace Takes Flight at Farnborough International Airshow Last Month: Five Granite State Companies Scored Worldwide Connections

Friday, August 3rd, 2018

New Hampshire’s growing aerospace sector was on display last month at the Farnborough International Airshow, one of the largest industry trade shows in the world. Among the highlights this year: The debut of the F-35 Lightning II, along with nine new aircraft from Boeing, Bombardier, Gulfstream, Hondajet and Embraer.

Six companies – AQYR of Nashua; Corfin Industries of Salem; Northern Composites of Hampton; Transupport of Merrimack and US NanoSolutions of Hampton – were joined by Liquid Measurement Solutions of Georgia, Vt., at the New Hampshire pavilion. This year’s show featured more than 1,500 exhibitors from 52 countries, of which nearly three-quarters were from outside the United Kingdom.

While the latest total is still being calculated, in 2016, $124 billion in orders and commitment were placed at the air show.

On the first day of the show, U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen visited the New Hampshire pavilion, which drew some great attention to the Granite State and, because of her connections, provided introductions of our businesses to key prime contractors – Boeing, Leonardo and Textron.

This is valuable currency for our companies, who are now connected with the right people to talk about procurement and getting into their supply chains.

This is the second time since 2012 New Hampshire has had a presence at this biennial air show. Since that first show, our state’s aerospace sector has seen impressive growth and increased international acumen.

We returned because of strong business connections our companies, and the New Hampshire Aerospace and Defense Export Consortium, have forged since then, including with the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium.  The relationship is providing possibilities for trade and business opportunities for Granite State companies.

The United Kingdom is the U.S.’s second largest defense market and a strong market for New Hampshire’s integrated supply chain. We make components that put planes and jets in flight. It makes sense to be there and the companies taking part in our pavilion took advantage of the opportunity to seek new markets, show commitment to customers and make connections.

International trade shows are intense, but are a great way to meet the world halfway. For New Hampshire, Farnborough has again opened doors to possibility for one of its dynamic and growing sectors.

New Hampshire’s International Trade Office, 3 Companies Debut at Dubai Air Show

Wednesday, October 28th, 2015
Dubai

Nov. 8-12

Three companies, whose capabilities span from the ocean floor to satellite orbit, join the New Hampshire Office of International Commerce next month at the Dubai Air Show (Stand 1856), which will feature more than 1,000 exhibitors representing 60 countries and draw over 60,000 people to five day event.

This will be New Hampshire’s first appearance at the biennial air show, one of the largest trade shows in the Middle East. The Dubai Air Show runs from Nov. 8-12.

The New Hampshire Office of International Commerce booth includes representatives from AQYR of Hollis, provider of satellite communications hardware; HALO Maritime Defense Systems of Newton, designer of sea barriers; and Transupport of Merrimack, a stocking distributor for gas turbine engines. Funding for participation in the air show comes from a State Trade Export Promotion grant. All three companies are members of the New Hampshire Aerospace and Defense Export Consortium.

“This is a premiere event for New Hampshire to showcase its aerospace and defense capabilities,” said Tina Kasim, program manager for the Office of International Commerce, part of the New Hampshire Division of Economic Development. “Our companies are eager to be out in front of the decision makers who will be at the show and as a state, New Hampshire is ready to show how its aero/defense industry can meet the demands of a growing Middle East market.”

The companies’ representatives say their presence at the air show provides valuable exposure.

“Participating in the show gives us the ability to present our product to a worldwide audience, which we could not do on our own,” said Mark Wheeler, director of business development for AQYR. “By being at the Dubai Air Show, we’ll be able to seek out local and regional companies for distribution and sales partnerships. We’ll have access to military, government and commerce officials and all of these together increase our visibility and capabilities in a way we could not achieve on our own.”

HALO Maritime Defense Systems’ CEO Paul Jensen said that even though his company designs defense barriers for use at sea, the government and military officials with whom he needs to connect will be at the air show. Being part of the New Hampshire booth will also be a benefit.

“For American companies, this lends credibility – people trust you and recognize that you are not a ‘suitcase salesman,’” he said.

For Transupport, being visible at an international venue is important.

“It’s a global economy and as a small New Hampshire business, this gives us an opportunity to branch out in an ever changing market,” said company vice president Ken Foote.

With more than 300 companies and manufacturers in the state involved in the aerospace and defense industries, New Hampshire will be one of six states exhibiting at the Dubai Air Show. The Office of International Commerce will promote the industries, highlighting its advanced composites manufacturing capabilities and other innovative technologies.

Gaining Altitude, NH Aero/Defense Companies Land in Singapore

Friday, February 7th, 2014

Asia’s largest air show gets underway this coming week and six New Hampshire companies are on the ground in Singapore, ready to make connections and gain entry into a new global market.

Justin Oslowski and Tina Kasim

Along with them are Tina Kasim, program manager of our International Trade Resource Center, and Justin Oslowski, director of the US Department of Commerce/US Commercial Service in Durham.

“The aerospace and defense industries are a fast growing sector for us,” Kasim said. “The companies attending represent our diversity and innovation and they are eager for the possibilities the Singapore and Asian markets will provide them.”

Over the past year, our aerospace and defense sector has been gaining altitude. It is one of our fastest growing industries and since it organized nearly one year ago, the New Hampshire Aerospace and Defense Export Consortium has boosted it even more. Our aero/defense companies are becoming familiar sights internationally; last June, five of our companies were at the International Paris Airshow and in July 2012, three companies took part in the Farnborough International Air Show. Their participation has been made possible through the federal State Trade Export Promotion program.

Singapore is New Hampshire’s 15th largest trading partner and with its range of aerospace design and manufacturing services, is a leading hub for the industry in Asia.

Attending are: AQYR Technologies of Nashua, which designs and manufactures highly portable, simple to operate, satellite communication terminals for military and governments worldwide; Corfin Industries of Salem, which provides component preparation services and is the exclusive provider of the Robotic Hot Solder Dip, which the company developed in the 1980s; LanAir Inc of Newington, which engineers and designs PMA parts; New England Wire Technologies of Lisbon, which designs and manufactures Litz, braids, cables and strands, ultra flexible single, multiconductor, and coaxial cables; RdF Corp., of Hudson, which designs, develops and manufactures surface, insertion and immersion temperature and heat flux sensors and Transupport of Merrimack, a stocking supplier of spares for gas turbine engines, including the T53, T55, AGT1500 AND TF series.

“This builds on the momentum gained from participating in the Farnborough and Paris Air Shows, and further solidifies New Hampshire’s reputation as a large and growing hub for the world’s aerospace and defense sectors,” Oslowski said. “As our first formal foray into Asia, I can’t think of a better market than Singapore. I’m confident our participating companies will show results in the very near future.”

Countdown to the Paris Air Show

Monday, June 10th, 2013

It’s not often we can invoke Tom Cruise in the No Bull Business Blog, so when we can, we do.

It’s the same as if five New Hampshire companies were getting ready to attend the world’s oldest and largest aerospace and defense trade show … when we can, we do.

The Paris Air Show begins one week from today and five companies – Corfin Industries of Salem; New England Wire Technologies of Lisbon; RdF Corp. of Hudson; Tech Resources Inc. of Milford and Transupport of Merrimack – will be part of the Best of New England booth at the US Pavilion, joining seven companies from Maine and Vermont. Together, they will bring visibility to the region that has the capability and capacity to serve these fast growing sectors.

The Best of New England booth is made possible through the State Trade Export Promotion program, funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

We’d like to introduce you to them, beginning with Tech Resources Inc.
