In 1997, there were fewer than 5.5 million women-owned businesses in the United States. This year, that number is expected to top 8 million.
In an effort to stimulate women business ownership and foster relationships that build a state of opportunity for female entrepreneurs, Women Inspiring Women, the New Hampshire Division of Economic Development and Public Service of New Hampshire will be joining together to present the 2nd Annual NH Conference for Women being on Friday, November 18, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel/Center of NH, 700 Elm Street in Manchester.
According to Leslie Sturgeon, award-winning entrepreneur and founder of Women Inspiring Women, “this will not only be a day of inspiration, education and transformation but filled with fun surprises, exhibitors, door prizes and great networking as well.”
The day will include five motivational sessions and begin with “Back Stage at Life Experience: Five Lessons Learned” by Kathleen Peterson of PowerHouse Consulting. Other sessions include “Creating Health and Wealth From the Inside Out” presented by Kathleen Burns Kingsbury, author and President of KBK Wealth Connection, “Leadership is the Difference” by Laurie-Ann Murabito, author and President of LA & Associates, “Just Breathe: The Quest for a Little Piece of Mind . . . and Chocolate” by motivational humorist Lesley Smith and “It’s Not About the Hike” with authors Nancy Sporborg and Pat Piper.
“There is perhaps no better time to think about creating a business in the state of New Hampshire and I know that this conference will provide attendees with the motivation and inspiration they need to take the first step forward,” said New Hampshire Division of Economic Development Communications & Legislative Director Steve Boucher. “And for those women who’ve already taken the leap of faith and are operating their own companies, what better way to stay engaged, gain new tips and meet with potential partners and customers?”
“Public Service of New Hampshire welcomes the opportunity to once again collaborate on this tremendous event,” added Public Service of New Hampshire Economic & Community Development Manager Pat McDermott. “We salute the women who are adding to the state’s economic vitality and are pleased to be part of this great day of information sharing and networking.”
As a result of generous contributions from the New Hampshire Division of Economic Development, Public Service of New Hampshire and Exeter Health Resources, the registration price is only $39 and includes lunch. Centrix Bank and NH Magazine are also corporate partners. Reservations are needed and space is limited. Contact Women Inspiring Women at (603) 744-0400 or visit www.wiwnh.com for more information and to register. Exhibition space is still available as well.
Women Inspiring Women was founded in 2007 in the Lakes Region by Sturgeon to give women of all ages and backgrounds an opportunity to get together at educational, fun and inspirational events on a monthly basis. Since that time the organization has expanded to Concord, Nashua, Manchester, Bedford and the Seacoast, hosts bi-weekly events, and quickly become the state’s largest organization for women’s empowerment, personal development and networking.

With American Express reporting that the number of businesses owned by women in New Hampshire has grown by 37.2 percent in the last 14 years, there is no better time to be a female entrepreneur in the Granite State.
Recognizing that fact, Women Inspiring Women will present “Inspiring Women in Business” on Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at SERESC Conference and Training Center, 29 Commerce Drive in Bedford. The day will celebrate National Small Business Week and include five educational sessions, exhibitors and networking.
Workshops include “Tap Into Your Inspiration” with Deb Titus of Dale Carnegie-NH, “Master Your Money Mindset” with Kathleen Burns Kingsbury of KBK Wealth Connection, “Fearless Marketing” with Nancy Clark of the Glen Group and “Growing a Successful Business” with Dr. Deborah Osgood of the Knowledge Institute. “We Mean Business,” a panel discussion featuring NH Business Review’s 2011 “Outstanding Women in Business” will also be held. These honorees and panelists include Maureen Beauregard of Families in Transition, Maren Boothby of Boothby Therapy Services, Robin Comstock of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Andrea Johnstone, Esq. of Bernstein Shur and Karen Pollard of the Rochester Department of Economic Development. It will be moderated by Leslie Sturgeon of Women Inspiring Women, also an “Outstanding Women in Business” honoree.
“We felt the perfect way to recognize National Small Business Week and the fact more women are starting businesses than men in NH was to bring business women from around NH together for a day of education and inspiration,” according to Leslie Sturgeon, founder and president of Women Inspiring Women.”
As a result of a generous contribution from Microsoft BizSpark, NH Division of Economic Development, Public Service of New Hampshire, and Exeter Health Resources, the registration price is only $40 and includes lunch. Reservations are needed and space is limited. This is very cool news from our friend Leslie Sturgeon over at Women Inspiring Women – aspiring and active women business owners alike have much to rejoice about with this announcement:
Business and Personal Inspiration and Success Groups have been launched by Women Inspiring Women and begin on September 9, 2010 in Manchester. Each group will be comprised of individuals with a deep commitment to success, either personally or for their business, and will involve sharing of challenges and ideas, receiving peer guidance and recommendations, developing an action plan for optimal results and accountability.
The Business Success Group is ideal for entrepreneurs seeking assistance from other like-minded individuals in all areas of business ownership including marketing, operations, expansion, customer service and sales. The Personal Success Group will focus on helping women with career, financial, motivation, assertiveness, personal goals and other challenges. According to Leslie Sturgeon, founder of Women Inspiring Women, “There is no denying that when women come together to support and motivate each other that amazing results are achieved.” She went on to say that “These types of groups help women who oftentimes feel they are going solo in their businesses and lives, and it also gives them a supportive environment with impartial people who are committed to success.”
“The groups will be very structured with action plans and accountability a key component,” Sturgeon added. The groups will run once a month for 4 months beginning on September 9, 2010 at the Manchester Country Club. Other groups will be added this fall if interest exists for other NH regions, but will be held all over NH beginning in January.

Over 330,000 Granite State Facebook users can’t be wrong – social media is rapidly becoming one of the most preferred methods of communicating important information. But do you know how to maximize its use for business purposes? “New Mediums/New Messages – How Social Media is Transforming Communication” is the title of the new free NH BizCast webinar slated for Wednesday, February 17th from noon-1 p.m.
“With more than a quarter of the state’s population currently featuring a personal profile on Facebook, we need to ensure that New Hampshire businesses know how to use social media as a productivity and sales tool,” said New Hampshire Division of Economic Development Interim Director Roy Duddy. “It’s not enough these days to rely on traditional communications and advertising vehicles – to keep pace, you really need to learn how to reach new audiences via social networking.”
Offered by the New Hampshire Division of Economic Development, the February 17th NH BizCast will feature Allen Voivod, owner of Gilford-based Epiphanies, Inc., a “creative content enterprise” specializing in brand-friendly, highly-targeted Web content for corporations and small businesses. Today, Epiphanies shares powerful social marketing & success strategies with entrepreneurs, global brands, and mission-driven organizations through speaking, workshops, customized training programs and consulting.
Allen and partner/wife Lani have been featured widely in the media, including the NH Union Leader, Forbes.com, NH Business Review, Blog Talk Radio, NHPR, and New Hampshire Today. As founding members of the International Social Media Association, they have delivered presentations on behalf of the NH High Technology Council, Women Inspiring Women and the American Society for Training and Development among many other groups.
As is the case with all NH BizCasts, the Webcast will be hosted live at the Comfort Inn (71 Hall Street) in Concord and will feature a live audience.
For more information and to attend the NH BizCast, visit www.nheconomy.com. Those planning on participating in the live audience at the Comfort Inn are asked to pre-register by contacting Leslie Sherman at (603) 271-2591 or leslie.sherman@dred.state.nh.us.

Too often, the ladies in our life don’t take the time that they need to ensure their own physical and spiritual health and well-being. In today’s lightning paced society where it seems that there’s a race to see who can do the most in the quickest amount of time, stepping back and recharging batteries often seems like an impossible task.
That’s why I’m so happy to spread the word about a tremendous seminar taking place at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord tomorrow evening.
“Taking Care of You” is the name of the health and wellness panel discussion being sponsored by our friends at Women Inspiring Women. This organization, whose motto is “bringing super cool chicks together for education, empowerment, personal development, networking and fun,” is a great catalyst for women’s business growth in the Granite State. Led by Office Options and Association Solutions Owner Leslie Sturgeon, this group provides an excellent forum for personal and professional growth through networking and educational opportunities.
The “Taking Care of You!” session presents an all-star team of health and wellness providers including Amy Gebo of Concord Hospital (stress management), Dr. Kristen O’Dell of Bedford Natural Medicine (health/wellness), Kim Dorval of Nutrition in Motion (diet/nutrition) and Gina McGuire of The Bod Squad (exercise/fitness).
Socializing and exhibit visits take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the buffet dinner and program taking place promptly at 6:30 p.m. The program is being offered at the low cost of $35 and registrations can be made at www.wiwnh.com. Walk-ins are also welcome. For more information, contact (603) 744-0400.
Ladies – take this opportunity to take good care of yourself. You deserve it!

Two short months ago, the NH Division of Economic Development partnered with our good friends over at the Manchester Wolves, NH Mirror and Women Inspiring Women to host the first ever “Women of the Workplace” conference at Murphy’s Taproom in Manchester. This event was a tremendous success attracting 130 women with more than 50 additional being turned away. We’re planning on an even bigger and better event in 2010, but in the meantime, all of the women at the conference were given special t-shirts and invited to “Ladies Night” with the Manchester Wolves as they take on the Quad City Steamwheelers this Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. at The Acting Loft Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester.
Gentlemen, if you’re looking for a cool, family style event to take the special lady in your life to, this is a neat pre-Mother’s Day present. And ladies, there are a lot worse ways to spend the evening than having the opportunity to have an Af2 football player land at your feet in your front row seat. The Wolves are a great partner to our Division and they went all out to help provide a great event to the businesswomen and female entrepreneurs of the state. Let’s show our gratitude with a great turnout on Saturday evening! Tickets are specially priced at $10 for women and there will be some awesome giveways all night….be there. Visit manchesterwolves.com for more details!
