By crafting a 4.5 pound “green” tent that can withstand 40 mile per hour winds, Nemo Equipment, Inc. has earned the New Hampshire Business Resource Center’s “Innovation Rocks!” Award for the month of August.
Nashua-based Nemo Equipment’s Nano OZ is a durable two-person backpacking tent made almost entirely of recycled materials. Recycled, post-consumer plastic is used for the fabrics, guylines, even the zipper tape. Comprised of 90% recycled and recyclable materials, more than any other tent currently on the market, the Nano OZ was hailed by Backpacker Magazine for designing a “rock-solid structure” that withstood blasting 40-mph winds in Wales’s Snowdonia National Park.
“Nemo has not only created a tremendous product, it has also put great emphasis on being environmentally friendly,” said New Hampshire Division of Economic Development Interim Director Roy Duddy. “This type of innovation is setting the pace in the outdoor equipment industry and is testament to the type of creative thinking that New Hampshire is known for.”
